1 All About GeM - Government e-Marketplace
All About GeM - Government e Marketplace GeM is an online procurement portal by the Government of India. It was created to make government officers' procuring of products and services easier. The Directorate General of Supplies and Goods (DG S&G) hosts this website.

It is a dynamic and user-friendly website that aims to simplify and increase transparency in the way goods and services are procured by Government Ministries and Departments, PSUs (Public Sector Undertakings), and other independent Central Government agencies.

GeM gives access to the online bidding process of the common goods & supplies required by the aforementioned bodies. Also, it aids in reverse e-auction (where the roles of buyers and sellers are reversed) and helps government officials optimally extract the value for money.

The system has an integrated payment system as well as a market search/comparison capability. This assures safety while also getting the greatest value for both the buyer and seller.

Another feather in the hat is the recent integration of GeM with the India Post. This has further facilitated the shipping of consignments, thus helping sellers (more than 40 lakh currently registered with GeM) keep their business up and running.
